temporary hiatus

Lately I haven't been up to doing many blog posts.   I don't know if it's because I'm lacking creativity or what but I feel like anything I might post during the week might be half assed and I'm not sure I want to do that.

My plan was to post once daily from Monday to Friday and at the start of the year I even began planning out my posts for the months ahead.  But things come up, plans get changed and I was finding myself a little too busy and or/tired to write enough quality work.  What I did end up posting was good, but I thought it could have been better.

I think I have "blog envy"...I read a lot of different blogs pretty frequently and I find myself wishing my own blog:
  • was my own website instead of being hosted on Blogger
  • looked as nice as other blogs
  • had more/any followers
  • had sponsors
  • etc
I know all of those things are possible for me and my blog but I think that would require more time than I have to spare right now.  If you read my blog often enough you probably know that I've struggled with unemployment for many months.  My days are spent at home trying to keep busy and I had previously spent a lot of time on my blog.  But I've come to realize that, while blogging is a fun hobby, there are more important things to be spending my time on.  It's quite possible for me to spend hours at a time on my blog, whether it be coming up with ideas for new content, creating roundup posts or researching how to improve my blog.  But right now, I'm spending too much time on it and not getting the results I dreamed.  Since blogging can't pay my bills I'm going to focus more on looking for work in the real world.  I also have a long list of house and yard projects I want to tackle as the weather warms up.

I'll still be blogging, but I've decided to cut back a little.  The plan is to post 1-3 good quality entries a week, maybe more or less depending on how I feel.  Since I don't have a large following on my blog I'm sure nobody will mind my lessened content, but I'll still be posting on my Facebook page.

So thanks to those of you who have been reading/following my blog.  I'm taking a break to better myself so that I can in turn write better posts.

wedding post

Today we've been married for 1.5 years, so in honour of that I'm sharing MORE wedding photos :)

We had the ceremony in my childhood church, most of the pictures were taken at the college where we met and the reception was in a dinner theatre barn.  My bouquet is made of brooches and pins I bought or were given to me by friends and family (my Aunt even gave me some of my great-grandmother's!).  I spent over a year collecting and then making my bouquet and I love it.  We had a small reception and served a sit down dinner with 3 meal choices (chosen by guests in advance) and our dessert was cupcakes instead of wedding cake.

We made the invitations (not pictured), name cards and framed quotes.

We opted not to decorate the church and did simple decor for the reception.  We used a lot of battery operated LED candles, sunflowers at each table, framed quotes about love and the dance floor strand of outdoor Christmas lights wrapped around the overhead beams, which my Dad and brother strung up.

The weather was rainy and chilly, so most of our pictures were indoors which was fine.  The reception ended pretty early with most guests gone by 10pm.  Since our wedding was on a Sunday we expected people would leave early since they had to work the next day.  We chose Sunday because many vendors offer discounts on services booked for days other than Saturday (our DJ for example gave us a $200 discount for having a Sunday wedding).  And since Sunday isn't a popular day for weddings every vendor we wanted was available.

I am pretty much obsessed with looking at our wedding photos!  It was such a great start to our life together.

red and black

I had a job interview and this is my outfit for it.  The giant bag I'm carrying is a laptop bag, not a purse!  I had to give a Powerpoint presentation and brought my laptop, but my regular purse handles weren't meant for supporting such a heavy load.  This laptop bag may be a little large for a purse, but it had enough space for my laptop and other stuff I usually carry.

My tights are kind of hard to see in the full body shots (I was lazy and didn't feel like going outside for pics), so I'll post a close up shot.

The red top I'm wearing is actually a peplum style but I opted to tuck it in for a cleaner look.  The makeup I wore is super basic: liquid foundation (because my skin hates me lately), mascara, eye liner, red lipstick with pink gloss over top. Since I took these pictures a few hours after my interview my lipstick has worn off a bit, but I quite like the colour it turned out to be.

Since I'm not working right now I spend my days usually in yoga pants (!) or jeans so it's nice to get dressed up again.

feeling ambitious

Lately I've been really obsessed with making clothing...actually, the IDEA of making clothing.  I'm terrible with a sewing machine, plus mine is missing it's foot, so I sew by hand. It's quite the process and it's very time consuming so I'm on the lookout for easy and fast sewing projects.  Pinterest is pretty much my best friend, at the moment.

Here are some simple projects I'm hoping to try soon.

(the caftan dress is pretty similar to the polka dot dress, but the fabric used and the length are different)

These tutorials all seem pretty straight forward, which I like!  I especially like the circle skirt made from an old bed sheet.  I actually have a sheet I saved from my old, twin bed because I couldn't bear to part with it since I love the pattern so much...maybe I'll make the skirt from it!

Would you try any of these tutorials?
